Keys to Success with Affirmations

Self-affirmation is a proven and tested tool for success. But one does not simply learn the art of it overnight and succeed on the next. It’s a process that takes practice and a lot of getting used to. Eventually, it becomes a way of life.

There are a lot of good things that springs from affirming oneself. For one, it provides confidence. Success is often a manifestation of confidence. Daily affirmations can contribute to this. When you remind yourself every single day about your worth and your vision, it will bring you closer to the life you consider to be successful.

The reason why affirmations were suggested to help you succeed in life is because it is intended to reprogram your brain into thinking as if you already have what you’re dreaming of. The key to being successful with daily affirmations is to visualize specific goals for whatever aspect you want to succeed in. When you affirm yourself with general goals and/or visions, it might be misleading. For example when you claim “I have a world-class brand,’’ it could appear too far-out, too big, or too impossible to believe. And eventually, you’ll end up believing that you will never achieve it. But when you specify and chunk it down like “My products are available to more than 50,000 consumers,’’ it will seem attainable on your part. Providing specific affirmations keeps you focused and oriented.

Of course it will not always be effective (or at least not always in ways we want it to be) but it develops an expectant attitude in us. When we expect for great things, we make room for great things. When a farmer hopes for rain, he prepares his field for it so that when it comes he is ready to receive it. Such is the case with success and affirming ourselves. When we want to succeed, we affirm ourselves day by day, prepare for it, and be ready when it comes.

Too often, we underestimate the power of affirmations. Logically speaking, it does not provide much evidence suggesting it to be reliable or effective. But once we get past that and give it a try, the changes are instant. We begin to think differently, feel positive about ourselves and take action. These qualities are essential for succeeding in life. Even the greatest successes in the world are attributed from affirmations. If those people with great minds had not encouraged themselves everyday they would not be convinced that they are indeed capable and they wouldn’t have accomplished anything. If all these had not taken place, there wouldn’t be a theory claiming that affirmations are an effective tool for success. What else is there to prove?

There is so little that we can gain from trying compared to what we can lose from indifference/not trying. So much has been said about how to succeed in life but really the one thing that can make a lot of difference is declaring what you want to accomplish. Saying it out loud somewhat helps to convince you that better things are on the way. Daily affirmations are imperative to your success.

How Affirmations Work

There is a simple logic behind how affirmations work. It can even be likened to a basic math formula where affirmations + action = desired results. But just as all human beings are different in many ways, so is the possibility that this simple logic could be complicated for each and every person.

Some people do it right, others do it wrong. Some do it better, others inconsistently. Some have reaped results, others are still waiting, and most have given up. You see, every man has a different response from the other. But what I believe and claim to be true is the fact that affirmations work.

However, there are a few things that need to be considered when making affirmations. First and most importantly, it should be in a positive statement. Of course, you might say. But have you really applied this fact? Humans are wired to be pessimistic. Perhaps it can be attributed to our childhood experiences or harsh and disappointing encounters in this cruel world. Which may be the reason why we use affirmations that say “I am not stupid.’’ Now you might ask, what’s wrong with this statement? It is merely a declaration that the person saying this is not stupid. And you’re right there is nothing wrong with it. But when you dig deeper, there is little or no good effect from this statement. Why? Because instead of believing that you are not stupid, you tend to believe and focus on two things: you and stupid. This is very wrong and is mainly the reason why it is strongly suggested to use affirmations in a positive statement. If we were to revise the previous affirmation to make it more effective it would be said in this way, “I am smart.’’ You would love to agree with this statement that’s why you would start believing so, treat yourself with respect and demand for the world to do the same.

Another thing that should be taken into consideration is in declaring your affirmation in the present tense instead of the future. There’s nothing wrong with looking forward but it’s better to start assuming that you already are. When you say “I will be a writer’’ it will evoke a lot of other thoughts like “I might never be a writer, I might not be good enough, it will always be just a dream.’’ These are all negative and inevitable when you look at it that way. But when you affirm yourself by saying “I am a writer’’ it will inspire you to work and live as if you really are which will make it even more satisfying when you become one.

In most cases, the only thing that could go wrong with affirmations is one’s approach as indicated in the examples given. It greatly affects the possibility of things happening. There is power in belief but there is greater power in unbelief. One error in your attitude with affirmations could affect its entire outcome. It only takes a little makeover to make something perfect. In the same way, it only takes practice to make affirmations work.

The Power of Affirmations

Every man desires abundance. It is something that we believe is rightfully ours to claim. So how do we achieve it? Simply by attracting it. And again, you might ask, how do we that? By applying the principle of affirmation -a declaration of something that is either true or desired to be true.

Our subconscious mind is so powerful that if we diligently train our minds to think that we can do one thing, we can convince our bodies and thus invite abundance right in our doorstep. It is necessary to have that drive to work towards the kind of life you want to accomplish.

Many times we just sit and wait- but we can do better. Day by day, we can affirm ourselves and demand for our dreams to happen.
